Medicare & Diabetes FAQ's

Is A1C testing important if I use a glucose meter?

Answer

A1CYes, it is there to compliment your home monitoring. The A1C test should be taken every time your health care professionals request as this determines averages with little room for error. With a glucose meter, the averages are only as good as the meters reliability when it comes to averaging and your own consistency. Most glucose meters are very accurate and there are many with management software so you can compare each test in increasingly advanced charts. The problem arises at times with inconsistent testing and other factors. So basically the A1C test is a fail-safe to make sure your not developing unknowing imbalances. Doctors like this as well because they can make changes based on data they have gathered themselves.

Available for home testing of your A1C is the A1CNow SelfCheck at home test kit for accurate home testing of yourself or by a healthcare professional. This device is to complement your blood glucose management so you can stay in full control of your diabetes.
