What is a Glucose Meter?

Answer

glucose_meter_testing

A glucose meter (glucometer or glucose monitor)

is a medical device for determining blood glucose concentrations in diabetic patients. It is the primary tool for blood glucose monitoring of those with the diabetes or more technically correct diabetes mellitus and hypoglycemia. This device uses test strips that are disposable and are the transport of sample to meter.

The finger or other area (AST) is pricked with a lancet or lancing device and the blood sample is placed on or absorbed depending on its technology into the test strip. Once enough sample is gathered, the test strip is placed into the meter and results are gathered. There are many orders and examples of this procedure, but this is the generally accepted idea. There are many types of meters with variations in their design so it is recommended to compare your choices online and see what meter suits your needs.

To get more information on the various types of glucose meters, there is a website called comparediabetictestingsupplies.com that has a Compare Glucose Meters section worth looking at.
